89 school girls were missing from Residential Girls School in Paraspur
Lucknow: In a startling incident at a hostel in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, a surprise inspection led to the discovery that 89 school girls were missing. District Magistrate Neha Sharma personally conducted the impromptu inspection at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls School in Paraspur on a late Monday evening.
Upon witnessing disarray within the school premises, the District Magistrate sternly addressed those responsible for the lapse in supervision. Engaging with the 11 girl students present at the hostel during her visit, she also evaluated the facilities provided by the school.
Following the District Magistrate’s orders, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) and District Coordinator for Girls’ Education promptly arrived at the school on Monday night.
During the inspection, it was astonishingly revealed that out of a total of 100 enrolled girl students, only 11 were accounted for. The hostel warden, Sarita Singh, was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the absence of the remaining 89 girls.
Suspicion grew as the attendance records indicated that girl students from classes 7 and 8 were not marked as present after August 17. It was uncovered that the warden had falsely recorded attendance on the Prerna portal, leading to fraudulent adjustments and payments.
In light of these financial irregularities, inspection findings, and evident negligence, a police report was filed late that Monday night. The report implicated four individuals, including the hostel warden, in the Paraspur police station.
