Telangana CM moots centre to foster innovation at Skill University
Hyderabad, July 31 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday proposed the establishment of a research centre at the Young India Skill University to foster innovation.
He also called for the creation of a dedicated department within the university to facilitate learning languages such as German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Russian.
The Chief Minister directed that instructors from the respective countries, alongside local experts proficient in these languages, be brought in to conduct the training.
At a review meeting of the Skill, Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives (SHAKTI) Department, the Chief Minister instructed officials to examine the feasibility of providing scholarships to those undergoing training for blue-collar jobs, similar to the overseas scholarships offered to students pursuing higher education.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), he stated that TOMCOM (Telangana Overseas Manpower Company) should take responsibility for the entire process—ranging from providing necessary training and organising job fairs to facilitating passports and securing employment opportunities in foreign countries for job seekers.
On Friday, CM Revanth Reddy held a review meeting regarding the Energy Department alongside Minister Vivek Venkataswamy.
The CM noted that a large number of workers from North Telangana migrate to Middle Eastern countries, often falling victim to fraud by agents and facing hardships. He suggested that TOMCOM should assist these individuals in obtaining passports and enter into agreements with manpower agencies in the destination countries.
The CM opined that such agreements would enable TOMCOM to intervene, hold discussions, and ensure justice if workers encounter any difficulties abroad. The Chief Minister directed officials to gather details of agents who facilitate the overseas migration of workers and to register the particulars of every individual sent abroad by them.
He announced that a former IFS officer would be appointed as the CEO of TOMCOM to oversee these operations.
The Chief Minister also suggested providing training in Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving to job seekers.
He said students studying in government engineering colleges, ITIs, ATCs, and polytechnic colleges should be provided opportunities to undertake internships with major companies. He noted that by pursuing internships alongside their studies, students would earn a stipend and acquire skills relevant to their future careers.
The CM suggested introducing courses on EV servicing and drone technology in ATCs, highlighting the need for skilled personnel to service electric vehicles given their rapidly increasing usage. He also recommended drone technology courses due to the significant rise in the use of drones in agriculture.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy remarked that there is a huge demand for nursing services both domestically and internationally. He noted that the ageing population in several developed countries has created a demand for home-based nursing care. The CM stated that permissions for nursing colleges are being granted to meet this growing demand.
SHAKTI Minister Vivek Venkatswamy, Principal Secretary to the CM N. Sridhar, Secretary (Energy) Harichandana, Director of Employment and Training Nirmala Kanthi Wesley, and Young India Skill University Vice-Chancellor Subbarao and others participated in the review meeting.
