Ahead of Telangana Assembly session, Congress demands KCR’s resignation

Hyderabad, Sep 6 (IANS) Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) staged a ‘Maha dharna’ at Indira Park here on Sunday to demand the resignation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the Leader of Opposition and also as Member of Legislative Assembly.

Congress leaders, including ministers, criticised KCR for drawing salaries and allowances but not attending the Assembly session.

They said that the former Chief Minister was g using public money but staying away from the people.

They demanded that former CM KCR resign from his MLA post, citing his failure to attend the Assembly for a thousand days, his neglect of the responsibilities as Leader of Opposition, and his inaccessibility to the people of his constituency.

They alleged that KCR had drawn Rs 1.32 crore in salary while staying at his farmhouse and not attending the Assembly. They also alleged that Rs 21 crore from the exchequer had been spent on his security and bulletproof vehicles.

Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, Mohammed Azharuddin, government advisor Hanumantha Rao, senior leader Jagga Reddy and others participated in the protest.

The ‘Maha Dharna’ was held ahead of the monsoon session of the Assembly, beginning on Monday.

Minister for transport and BC welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, said it was not appropriate for an individual who fails to respond to public issues to continue serving as an MLA.

Minister for industry and IT, D. Sridhar Babu, criticised the BRS leaders for delivering speeches on roads but avoiding the Assembly. He said the Congress would respond if they attend the Assembly and raise the issues.

He said KCR, who served as the Chief Minister for 10 years, should attend the Assembly and share his experiences.

He called upon Congress cadres to counter the misinformation campaign of the opposition parties on social media. He asked them if only Congress workers were availing the free travel scheme in RTC buses.

Sridhar Babu said the Congress government was also providing free electricity to the poor up to 200 units per month. Stating that the BRS government did not issue ration cards for 10 years, he asked if BRS and BJP workers have not received ration cards and if they are not getting free rice of fine variety.

Claiming that the government credited Rs 1.60 lakh crore in the bank accounts of farmers, he said that by the next elections, the Congress party would completely implement six guarantees.

Alleging that the Congress government inherited Rs 8 lakh crore in debt from the BRS government, he said that while repaying the principal and interest, the Congress government was implementing welfare schemes.

Sridhar Babu warned that if BRS leaders do not change their approach, they will have to remain on the roads for another 10 years.
