Two criminals injured, juvenile apprehended after gunfight with Delhi Police in Rohini

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS) Two criminals were injured and arrested, while a juvenile was apprehended following a gunfight with the Delhi Police in Rohini Sector 24, officials said on Wednesday.
Two of the accused sustained gunshot injuries to their legs during the exchange of fire and were subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
The encounter took place between the Special Staff team of Rohini and a group of alleged criminals in Sector 24, Rohini. According to officials, the police team had received information about three criminals travelling on a motorcycle and suspected to be heading towards the Rohini Sector 24 area.
Acting on the information, the Special Staff Rohini team laid a trap and positioned itself at the location to intercept the suspects. As soon as the three men arrived on the motorcycle, the police personnel asked them to surrender and attempted to apprehend them.
However, instead of complying with the police instructions, the suspects allegedly opened fire at the police party. The police team retaliated in self-defence, during which two of the criminals were shot in the legs. The injured suspects were overpowered and apprehended before being shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
DCP Rohini Shashank Jaiswal, speaking to the reporters, said the police had received prior information about the accused as two of them were wanted criminals, and each carried a bounty of Rs 50,000.
“We had prior information because both of them were wanted criminals, each carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. We received information that they were going to pass through here to commit a crime. So, we set a trap and challenged them, but they started firing at us. We retaliated in self-defence,” Jaiswal said.
The DCP said the suspects fired multiple rounds at the police team during the encounter, forcing the personnel to respond to the firing. He said the exchange of fire involved around 11 to 12 rounds fired by the accused, while the police team fired six rounds in retaliation.
“They fired approximately 11 to 12 rounds. Six rounds were fired from our side. They sustained gunshot injuries. Bullets hit our bulletproof jackets, which protected our officers,” Jaiswal said.
He further said that the police team successfully apprehended all three suspects, including one juvenile and two adults identified as Deepak and Nitik.
“Inspector Sandeep Godara, Manjeet, and the rest of the team apprehended three individuals, including one juvenile and two others named Deepak and Nitik,” he added.
According to an NDTV report, police said all three apprehended shooters are associated with the Himanshu Bhau gang. The accused are also suspected to be involved in the killing of a property dealer Pramod, who was shot dead outside a gym earlier this month.
An investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
