Bengaluru Residents’ body welcomes KAOMA push, demands timely enforcement
Bengaluru: Bengaluru Apartments Federation (BAF) has welcomed the State government’s move to implement the Karnataka Apartment Ownership and Management Act (KAOMA) through an ordinance, and urged authorities to ensure its swift rollout.
The move follows an assurance by Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar during the final day of the budget session in the Assembly.
In a statement, BAF president Satish Mallya said the federation was grateful to the Deputy CM, the Chief Minister and leaders across parties for bringing KAOMA to the forefront. He also acknowledged the efforts of officials from the Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs departments in shaping the legislation.
“KAOMA will bring greater transparency, accountability and empowerment in the management of lakhs of apartments across Karnataka,” he said, adding that the Act must now be implemented swiftly within a defined timeframe.
BAF general secretary K. Arun Kumar stressed the urgency of enforcement, noting that lakhs of residents cannot continue under outdated regulatory frameworks. He called for early notification of rules and model bye-laws to ensure smooth implementation.
Treasurer Kiran Hebbar thanked several legislators, including R. Ashoka, C. N. Ashwath Narayan, S. R. Vishwanath, Ravi Subramanya, Suresh Kumar and Gopinath Reddy for consistently raising the issue in the Assembly.
Reaffirming support, BAF governing council member Vishwa Venkata Reddy said the federation is ready to organise workshops in collaboration with MLAs across Bengaluru and the state to facilitate awareness and effective execution.
The federation said KAOMA’s implementation is expected to bring long-awaited regulatory clarity and strengthen governance mechanisms in apartment ownership and management across Karnataka.
