K’taka BJP flags ‘Dakota’ BMTC buses, warns commuters over safety
Bengaluru, Dec 30: The opposition BJP raised concerns over the safety of BMTC buses, warning commuters to exercise caution before boarding government-run buses in the city.
Amid growing public anger over frequent breakdowns and accidents involving BMTC vehicles, the BJP shared a video on social media platform X showing a bus allegedly in poor condition. The party accused the Congress government of “playing with passengers’ lives” by deploying old and poorly maintained buses without adequate funding for the transport department.
“Without allocating sufficient resources, the government has pushed ‘Dakota buses’ onto city roads,” the BJP alleged, claiming this has put commuter safety at risk.

BMTC buses, the party said, have earned the tag of “killer buses” due to repeated mishaps, creating fear among daily commuters. The opposition further alleged that the lack of proper maintenance has compromised passenger safety across the city.
Targeting Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the BJP asked, “Is this your ‘Dakota bus guarantee’?”—a remark that has since gained traction on social media.
