Bengal CM to meet rebel Trinamool MPs in New Delhi tomorrow

Kolkata, July 27 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will go to New Delhi on Tuesday and meet the 20 erstwhile Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members who joined the National Citizens’ Party of India (NCPI) soon after the results for the state Assembly elections were announced.

The meeting will happen just a day after the Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking the expeditious disposal of disqualification petitions from the Trinamool against these 20 Lok Sabha members

Although the Lok Sabha Speaker had not yet recognised the party transfer of the 20 MPs, separate seats have been allotted to them in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, Abhishek Banerjee, also the nephew of the party supremo and former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee and his fellow party MPs, Mahua Moitra and Kalyan Banerjee, met the Lok Sabha Speaker and raised the demand for disqualification of these 20 rebel MPs.

But the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office had not taken any decision on the matter as yet. In this context, CM Adhikari is going to meet with the NCPI Lok Sabha members, who claim to be allies of the ruling National Democratic Alliance. (NDA).

It is learnt that the meeting between CM Adhikari and the 20 NCPI Lok Sabha members had been scheduled at Banga Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday. However, the subjects of discussion of Tuesday’s meeting are yet to be made clear.

However, sources aware of the development said that issues like proper utilisation of MPLAD funds with better coordination with the state government might be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting. “There might be discussion on which West Bengal-related issues will be raised by these MPs on the floor of the Parliament during the Monsoon Session of the House,” said a state BJP leader.
