Delhi: Fire breaks out at garment shop in Old Seelampur; no casualties reported
New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) A fire broke out at a garment shop operating from a three-storey building in Delhi’s Old Seelampur area on Sunday morning, prompting the deployment of four fire tenders. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, officials said.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, the fire was reported around 8:21 – 8:22 a.m. from a building being used as a warehouse for kurti garments in the Shahdara district.
Fire Department Officer Anup Singh said the situation was challenging when the firefighting team reached the spot due to the narrow approach roads and the intensity of the blaze.
“We received the call at around 8:21 or 8:22 a.m. regarding a fire inside a building that served as a warehouse for kurti garments. Upon reaching the scene, the situation was extremely dangerous. We faced significant difficulty bringing the fire engine here,” Singh said.
He said firefighters managed to bring the vehicle close to the building before laying out hose lines to begin the firefighting operation. Five hose lines were deployed to contain the flames.
“There was heavy smoke, but the fire is now under control,” the officer said.
No casualties were reported immediately in connection with the Old Seelampur incident. Fire officials are assessing the premises and the extent of damage caused by the blaze.
Meanwhile, in another fire incident in the national capital, a massive blaze broke out late at night at a timber market near Delhi’s Rajdhani Park Metro Station. Around 20-22 fire tenders were pressed into service after the flames spread from the first to the third floors of the affected premises. Firefighters eventually brought the situation under control. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Earlier this month, two e-rickshaw drivers were killed after a fire broke out at a rented premises in Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar, police said.
The victims were reportedly charging portable e-rickshaw batteries at the premises when the incident occurred. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call regarding the fire at R-17, First Floor, Raghubir Nagar, was received at Khyala Police Station at around 5:24 a.m. Following the alert, an investigating officer along with police personnel immediately reached the spot. Two injured persons were found at the premises and were identified as 17-year-old Md. Sufed and 38-year-old Md. Sahmad, both residents of Bhagalpur in Bihar.
The two, who were reportedly working as e-rickshaw drivers, were subsequently found to have suffered critical injuries in the fire. Police had initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the charging of portable e-rickshaw batteries at the rented premises.
