Foden signs new four-year Manchester City contract until 2030

London, July 22 (IANS) Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has committed his long-term future to the former Premier League champions after signing a new four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

The 26-year-old, whose previous deal was set to end next summer, has chosen to extend his stay with new head coach Enzo Maresca. He wants to start fresh after an inconsistent season.

“Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt,” Foden said after signing the extension.

“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic time with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more. I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season; he was someone all the players respected and loved working with.”

Foden made his first-team debut at 17 under former manager Pep Guardiola. He has since become one of City’s most successful academy graduates. He has made 369 appearances for the club, winning six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League title, and two FA Cups.

The England international will now reunite with Maresca, who was Guardiola’s assistant during City’s historic Treble-winning 2022-23 season. Maresca took over as head coach this summer after Guardiola left in May following a celebrated decade in charge.

Foden faced a tough 2025-26 season, making only 23 Premier League starts. He scored seven goals and provided five assists in 33 league appearances. He was also left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad in May after that inconsistent campaign.

The previous season was the best of his career. Foden scored 27 goals and made 12 assists across all competitions after City’s Treble win. In the 2024-25 Premier League, he scored seven goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances.
