Heavy Rain Likely Across Karnataka for Three More Days; Red Alert in Malnad

Bengaluru: The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across the state for the next three days. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the coastal and Malnad regions, while several districts, including Bengaluru, are likely to receive rain till August 7.

Heavy rainfall is forecast in Bengaluru, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri districts. Light to moderate showers are expected in Bagalkote, Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur and Vijayapura districts of North Interior Karnataka.

The IMD has predicted heavy rain accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. A Red Alert has been issued for Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, while widespread rainfall is also expected in Kodagu, Hassan and other parts of South Interior Karnataka.

In view of the heavy rainfall, authorities have declared a holiday for primary and high schools in Koppa and Sringeri taluks of Chikkamagaluru district. The district administration has advised residents to stay away from riverbanks as the Tunga River is flowing above the danger mark.

Similarly, schools have been closed in Sagar and Thirthahalli taluks of Shivamogga district as a precautionary measure. District authorities have urged the public to remain alert and follow weather advisories until conditions improve.
