History-sheeter injured in Jaunpur police encounter, accomplice arrested

Jaunpur: An alleged history-sheeter was injured in a police encounter, while his accomplice was arrested during a vehicle-checking operation in Khuthan police station limits of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, police said.

According to officials, a police team attempted to stop two men on a motorcycle near the Suithakhurd canal culvert on Friday. Police alleged that the duo opened fire while trying to flee, prompting retaliatory action in self-defence.

One of the accused, Rinku Yadav alias Omprakash Yadav, sustained a bullet injury to his left leg and was arrested. His accomplice, Satyam Lona alias Lallu of Ambedkar Nagar district, was also taken into custody.

Police recovered a country-made pistol, a live cartridge, an empty shell and the motorcycle used by the accused. Rinku was given first aid at the Community Health Centre in Khuthan before being referred for further treatment.

Shahganj Circle Officer Girendra Singh said Rinku is a history-sheeter with more than 36 criminal cases registered across several districts, including Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Sultanpur, Amethi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya. The cases include charges of attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, theft, and offences under the Arms Act and Gangster Act.

Police said several criminal cases are also registered against Satyam Lona. Further investigation is underway.
