HM Amit Shah assures Manipur CM of Centre’s support for peace, progress

New Delhi/Imphal, Oct 8 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday assured Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of the Centre’s full support in restoring peace and ensuring progress in the state, as well as in fulfilling the aspirations of its people.

A senior official of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Imphal said that the Home Minister also appreciated the sustained efforts of the state government to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Khemchand Singh on Thursday called on the Union Home Minister Shah at his official residence in New Delhi and during the meeting, the Chief Minister apprised him of the measures taken up by the state government for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

The Chief Minister told Union Minister Shah that the state government has succeeded in resuming the Imphal-Dimapur (Nagaland)-Guwahati bus service, which has brought much-needed relief to the common people.

In a significant development, inter-state passenger bus services between Manipur, Assam and Nagaland resumed on August 21 after a gap of more than three years.

The passenger bus services along National Highway-2 had remained disrupted following the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo tribal communities in Manipur on May 3, 2023.

The Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) and the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati National Highway (NH-2) are the two crucial lifelines of Manipur, connecting the state with the rest of the country.

Khemchand Singh also urged the Union Home Minister to help the state to tide over the various issues being faced by the state and sought continued support from the Central government.

The Chief Minister reiterated his invitation to Union Minister Shah to visit the state.

Accepting the invitation, the Union Home Minister told Khemchand Singh that he will visit the state in this month, the CMO official said.

He added that Union Minister Shah gave a patient hearing to the Chief Minister and assured all support in bringing peace and progress and in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Manipur.
