Luxurious ward office discovered in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation; state Health Minister demands probe

Kolkata, June 27 (IANS) Contraceptives, a bed and dressing table were discovered inside a ward office of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation office last night after it was opened. The ward office, which used to be run by Trinamool Congress, was found locked since the state Assembly elections results were declared on May 4.
After it was opened, the ward office turned out to be a luxurious place with multiple air conditioners and sofas in several rooms.
MLA of the area and state Health Minister Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee was shocked to see the ward office that had been closed for a long time.
He said, “At first, I did not understand why there was a bedroom. Later, I understood. It is a sin to see such things in a ward office.”
It may be noted that former Trinamool ward councillor no. 35 Jaydev Naskar in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area, has been missing since the results of the Assembly elections were announced. He has not been seen since then.
A section of residents had complained that the ward office of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation was not working properly.
Hearing the complaints of the public, the state Health Minister went to inspect the situation of the ward office. As soon as he entered, multiple expensive sofas were found. There are more than five air conditioners units in the entire office.
As soon as he entered the councillor’s room, it was seen that there was a bed inside. There were not files in the cupboard, but several winter blankets, soft pillows and sheets. A packet of condoms was recovered from the dressing table in the room. The minister expressed surprise upon seeing all these at the ward office.
Following the discovery, questions have been raised about how these items came inside a ward office which was meant to provide civic services to the people.
Questions have also been raised whether these items were brought with public money. The question also arises whether any immoral acts were done in the office.
The Health Minister said, “Bedrooms, multiple rooms, big and small are found. Dressing tables are there as well. A proper investigation is needed in the matter. Those who have looted people’s money must be brought to book.”
The police have been informed about the matter. The Bidhannagar Police is looking into the matter following the complaints by the locals.
This is not the first time, such luxurious party office or municipal has been discovered. Since the change of government in the state, the police raids in multiple locations have resulted in the discovery of such lavish party offices run by Trinamool Congress leaders.
In south Kolkata’s Suruchi Sangha club, which was run by former state minister Aroop Biswas and his brother Swarup Biswas, a separate illegal building was seen in the club premises which had luxurious bedroom, toilet and expensive items. Government relief materials were also stored there.
