Madhu Goud Yaskhi appointed All India Professionals’ Congress chief

Hyderabad, Sep 10 (IANS) All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Madhu Goud Yaskhi as the Chairperson of the All India Professionals’ Congress.
AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said on Wednesday in a press statement that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Yaskhi the chairperson of the All India Professionals’ Congress.
The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing chairperson, Praveen Chakravarty, the statement said.
A prominent leader of the Congress party in Telangana, Madhu Goud Yaskhi has decades of experience and is known for close rapport with the party’s high command.
Highly educated, Madhu Goud Yaskhi is one of the key leaders from Backward Castes and is also known for his civil and soft demeanour.
A strong supporter of separate Telangana state, he was first elected to Lok Sabha from Nizamabad in 2004, defeating Telugu Desam Party’s Syed Yusuf Ali by more than 1.37 lakh votes.
He retained the Lok Sabha seat in 2009, beating Bigala Ganesh Gupta of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) by more than 60,000 votes.
Yaskhi also served as Deputy Chief Whip of Congress Parliamentary Party.
However, in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he lost to K. Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who had contested on the ticket of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Yaskhi contested again in 2019 but finished a distant third.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Dharampuri Arvind had won the seat, defeating his nearest rival K. Kavitha of the TRS.
In 2023, Yaskhi was appointed the Chairman of Campaign Committee of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). He unsuccessfully contested for the Telangana Assembly in 2023 elections.
The party had fielded Yaskhi from LB Nagar, one of the constituencies in Hyderabad. He, however, finished third behind Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and BJP candidates.
He was considered one of the front runners for the post of State Congress Chief in 2024 after the then Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A. Revanth Reddy became the Chief Minister. However, the party choose Mahesh Kumar Goud as the TPCC Chief.
