Madhya Pradesh govt to light 5.8 million lamps on PM Modi’s birthday

Bhopal, Sep 13 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh will light 5.8 million lamps across the state, including at the Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Saturday.

The lamp-lighting programme will be followed by a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17, aimed at highlighting public service and making it an integral part of the political culture.

The Chief Minister said the programme would also mark Modi’s 25-year journey in public service, which began with his taking over as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001.

“Throughout his journey from Chief Minister to Prime Minister, Shri Modi has worked to bring the poor, farmers, youth, women and marginalised sections into the mainstream of development,” Yadav said in a statement.

He said the lighting of lamps by people across Madhya Pradesh would be an expression of gratitude for Modi’s 25 years of public service and dedication.

According to the Chief Minister, the celebrations would focus on the idea of service rather than political office and underline the importance of public welfare in governance.

The ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ will be organised across the state during the one-month period, with activities centred on public service and welfare.

Religious, cultural and other public places, including the Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, will be part of the wider programme.

Yadav said Madhya Pradesh’s development agenda was being pursued in line with the broader goal of building a developed India.

“Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Modi’s 25-year journey of service, we are committed to building a developed Madhya Pradesh alongside a developed India,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government was working on development, good governance and self-reliance with a focus on improving the lives of people across different sections of society.
