Manipur CM calls for collective efforts to restore peace, strengthen unity

Imphal, Oct 14 (IANS) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday called for collective efforts to restore peace and strengthen unity among the state’s diverse communities, stressing that mutual understanding and a shared commitment to work together were essential for the state’s progress.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme held at Chumthang Shanapung under the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency in Imphal West district.

The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being organised to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service and leadership.

Khemchand Singh observed that despite expressing love for Manipur, some people remained unwilling to go beyond the valley region and embrace all communities. He emphasised that Manipur, home to 36 communities, needed leaders capable of bringing people together and fostering unity.

Speaking on India’s economic progress, the Chief Minister stated that the country had been progressing towards becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing economies since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. He noted that India had entered the top four economies globally in terms of economic growth.

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Khemchand Singh stated that as India moves towards becoming a developed nation, the people of Manipur must also contribute meaningfully to achieving this national goal. He stressed that efforts to restore peace in the State must be pursued collectively, with all sections of society working together towards this objective.

Citing Singapore as an example, the Chief Minister said that while there were valuable lessons to be learnt from the experiences of other countries, people must also be willing to learn, work hard and bring about positive changes in their own society. Highlighting the development of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency, he stated that roads in the constituency were now being constructed using the rigid pavement system, although the construction process required considerable time.

As part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, outreach camps were organised by 42 different government departments, enabling people to access government services, obtain information and avail themselves of various welfare schemes.

The programme was attended by MLAs Sagolshem Kebi Devi and Tongbram Robindro Singh; Chairperson, Imphal West Zilla Parishad, R.K. Taruni Devi; officials of various government departments; local representatives and members of the public.
