Jail DIG arrested over alleged release of life convict using fake court order

Bengaluru: Parappana Agrahara police have arrested Jail DIG Somashekhar in connection with allegations that a life convict was released from prison on the basis of a forged Supreme Court order.

According to the allegations, Shankar, who was serving a life sentence in a 2018 murder case, was released from prison after a fake Supreme Court order was allegedly used to secure his release.

Police are now questioning Somashekhar as part of the investigation to determine his alleged role in the release of the convict and establish how the purported forged order was processed.

A Second Division Assistant (SDA), identified as Shrikanth S., had also come under the scanner in the case and was arrested earlier by the police.

Shankar had reportedly been arrested in 2001 in connection with cases involving murder, kidnapping and extortion. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
