Pune man arrested for killing mother after quarrel over money to buy liquor

Pune, Aug 30 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man stabbed his mother to death following a quarrel over his demand for money to buy liquor in the Vishrantwadi area of Maharashtra’s Pune, officials said on Sunday, adding that he has been arrested.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Panhale of Vishrantwadi police station confirmed the incident.

The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Savita Suresh Haribhakt, while the accused is her son Sagar Suresh Haribhakt.

According to police, the incident took place between 9.30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday in Vishrantwadi. An argument broke out between Sagar and his mother after the former asked for money to buy liquor, police said.

The quarrel reportedly escalated, following which Sagar attacked his mother with a knife, stabbing her in the neck. She died on the spot, officials said.

The Vishrantwadi police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the accused.

Police said the accused has some psychological and behavioural issues. Further investigation into the case is underway.

In a similar tragic incident reported in June, a 21-year-old youth allegedly stabbed his mother and later jumped to death from his fifth-floor residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, police said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Central Noida, Swatantra Kumar Singh, had then said that Bisrakh police were informed a day earlier that a resident of Radha Sky Gardens society had jumped from his flat.

“Upon reaching the site, the police found that the victim, identified as Sagar Yadav, was mentally unwell. He had an argument with his mother, after which he picked up a knife and attacked her,” he said.

ADCP Singh said that the mother was inflicted with minor injuries and was absolutely stable.

According to the senior police officer, the youth jumped from his fifth-floor flat as he was disturbed following the incident.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
