Rajasthan: AAP releases first Panchayat poll list, fields 60 candidates

Jaipur, Oct 8 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan, announcing nominees for 15 Zila Parishad seats and 45 Panchayat Samiti wards.

The party has fielded a total of 60 candidates in its first list, with a notable focus on Jhalawar, where it has announced candidates for 18 Panchayat Samiti wards.

AAP Organisational General Secretary Vishvendra Singh and Jaipur District President Amit Dadhich announced the list at a press conference on Thursday.

The party said it plans to announce candidates for additional seats in the coming days.

The first list gives considerable representation to Jhalawar, a district closely associated with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. AAP’s decision to field candidates in 18 Panchayat Samiti wards in the district comes as the party expands its presence in the state’s rural local-body elections.

The party has also announced candidates for Panchayat Samiti wards in Sawar in Ajmer; Raini, Laxmangarh and Malakheda in Alwar; and several wards across Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dholpur, Didwana-Kuchaman, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Rajsamand, Tonk and Sawai Madhopur.

Among the candidates announced are Mahavir Prasad from Ward 19 of Alsisar in Jhunjhunu and Lokpal from Ward 3 of Chirawa.

AAP has also announced candidates for 15 Zila Parishad seats as part of its first list.

The party announced in September that it would contest the Panchayati Raj elections across Rajasthan.

With the release of its first list, AAP has now formally begun announcing its candidates for the rural local-body polls.

The elections to Panchayati Raj institutions in Rajasthan are scheduled to be conducted in phases, with political parties preparing to expand their campaigns and candidate lists ahead of polling.
