
Saurav’s unbeaten half-century guides Barpeta Braves to Assam Premier League final

Guwahati, Aug 21 (IANS) Saurav Mousum Dihingia carried his bat with a composed, unbeaten half-century as Barpeta Braves edged Dibrugarh Warriors by five wickets in a tense semi-final to book their place in the final of the 2026 Assam Premier League (APL) at the ACA Stadium here on Friday.
Chasing a target of 135 runs for victory, Barpeta overcame early hiccups to wrap up the proceedings in 19.1 overs, thanks to opener Saurav’s 63 not out off 53 balls, which included six boundaries and a six.
He was well supported by middle-order batter Abhilash Maurya, who scored a crucial 37 off 29 deliveries with three fours and a hit over the fence. The duo stitched together a decisive 74-run partnership for the fifth wicket to steer their side to victory and book their spot in the title clash.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Dibrugarh Warriors were restricted to 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ayush Agarwal top-scored with a quickfire 45 not out off 29 balls, studded with two fours and three sixes, while Diwiz Pathak (27 off 17 balls) and Nasir Ullah (26 off 20 deliveries) chipped in with useful contributions.
Pranjal Paul was the pick of the bowlers for Barpeta, returning figures of 2-27, while Sidhartha Sankar Baruah and Doikho Das grabbed two wickets each for Dibrugarh in a losing cause. Barpeta Braves will now feature in the final of the inaugural edition of the tournament, to be held on Sunday.
