The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has added another feather to its cap
Gurugram (Haryana): The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has added another feather to its cap, winning the Award of Excellence in Urban Transport 2025 from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The award recognises KSRTC’s ‘Dhwani Spandana’ (Voice Pulse) initiative implemented under Mysuru Urban Transport, in the category “The State Which Has Implemented the Best Urban Transport Projects During the Previous Year.”
The Dhwani Spandana – Onboard Bus Identification and Navigation System is the first-of-its-kind project in India, successfully deployed in 200 city buses in Mysuru. The system has made travel significantly easier for visually impaired commuters, enhancing their confidence, safety, and independence.
The award was presented to KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokan Sahu at a ceremony held in Gurugram.
About ‘Dhwani Spandana’
Developed by IIT Delhi’s Raised Lines Foundation in collaboration with GEZ, Germany, the Dhwani Spandana system enables visually impaired passengers to identify buses and safely locate entrances through voice-based instructions. Over 400 visually impaired commuters have been trained to use the technology.
Implemented through a collaborative effort involving government bodies, educational institutions, and NGOs, the project is being hailed as a model initiative for inclusive public transport across India.
