Three persons arrested in Jammu in counterfeit currency case
Jammu, Sep 29 (IANS) Three persons involved in a counterfeit currency case were arrested in Jammu and suspected fake notes and printing material were recovered from them, police said on Tuesday.
“In a significant action against activities involving counterfeit currency, Police Post Sainik Colony, Police Station Channi Himmat, has arrested three persons in connection with the alleged printing/manufacturing of counterfeit currency notes at a rented premises in the Chowadhi area of Jammu. The case came to light on the basis of reliable information regarding suspected counterfeit currency-related activity being carried out at the rented premises,” a police official said.
“Acting promptly on the information, a police team from Police Post Sainik Colony reached the spot and apprehended three persons identified as: Vijay Sahani, resident of Bihar’s Siwan, at present Preet Nagar, Digana; Indrajeet Kumar, resident of Maharajpur in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj, at present Trikuta Nagar; and Rahul Ahirwar, son of Bhagwan Das Ahirwar, resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Chattarpur, at present Marble Market.”
During the search of the premises, police recovered and seized suspected low-quality counterfeit currency notes of Rs 100 denomination amounting to Rs 13,500, along with a printing machine, paper cutter, ink bottles of different colours, one toka and other documents/material suspected to be connected with the activity.
The recoveries have been seized in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure. In this connection, FIR No. 269/2026 under Sections 178/180/181/3(5) BNS and 4/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Channi Himmat, and investigation has been taken up.
The investigation is focused on establishing the complete modus operandi, identifying the source and intended circulation of the suspected counterfeit currency, and ascertaining the involvement of any other persons in the activity.
Jammu Police reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the currency system and taking strict legal action against persons involved in the manufacture, possession, circulation or other unlawful activities relating to counterfeit currency.
