Varanasi weaver’s heartfelt birthday gift for PM Modi: A silk-thread portrait with mother

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, a Varanasi-based weaver has prepared a unique artistic tribute depicting the Prime Minister receiving his late mother Heeraben Modi’s blessings.

Weaver Sarvesh Kumar Srivastava has created a special portrait of Prime Minister Modi and his mother using pure Indian silk threads.

The artwork shows Heeraben blessing PM Modi, capturing an emotional moment between the mother and son through the intricate traditional craft of Kashi.

According to Srivastava, the portrait has been created using the traditional ‘Uchand Kala’, an ancient art form believed to have links to the era of Lord Ram.

The intricate artwork took around one-and-a-half months to complete and showcases the craftsmanship and weaving traditions for which Varanasi is renowned.

The portrait is being sent to Prime Minister Modi as a special birthday gift. Srivastava has previously sent Banarasi sarees as gifts to the Prime Minister on his birthdays.

Speaking about his creation, Srivastava said the artwork was his way of paying tribute to the Prime Minister and preserving a representation of his bond with his mother through the traditional art of Varanasi.

“Our Prime Minister is a great personality for India. If we say that we gained independence again in 2014, it would not be an exaggeration, because the work done under his leadership after 2014 by his government has been remarkable and highly commendable. I made a saree, and the portrait of PM Modi’s mother giving blessings to him is a kind of work that can be framed and preserved,” he told IANS.

The weaver said the portrait was created with the hope that it would reach the Prime Minister and remain preserved as a distinctive piece of traditional Indian craftsmanship.

The artwork also highlights the cultural and artistic legacy of Kashi, where generations of artisans and weavers have preserved traditional techniques while adapting them to contemporary themes.

By depicting the Prime Minister and his mother through silk threads, the artist has combined a personal tribute with the region’s centuries-old weaving heritage.

The special creation is expected to be presented to PM Modi on the occasion of his birthday, offering a distinctive gift that brings together Varanasi’s renowned silk craftsmanship, traditional art and a deeply personal mother-son theme.
